Dongbu HiTek today announced that it has begun volume production of DC/DC converters for Wuxi Silicon Technology (WST), a fabless semiconductor company based in Wuxi, China. The synchronous step-down converters fully leverage Dongbu HiTek's specialized BCDMOS processing at the 0.35 micron node to operate efficiently over wide range of input voltages (4.75V- 24V) and load currents (2A /3A). "Our new high-efficiency power converters will initially target the broad range LCD/LED/3D TV sets coming to market and the set top boxes that work with them," said Jianlin Fan, WST CEO. "Thanks to Dongbu HiTek's analog expertise and superb BCDMOS processing, our new converters promise high value with features such as current mode control, fast transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limit." He noted that the analog-intensive power devices also specify an adjustable "soft-start" that prevents excessive current inrush at turn-on as well as a "shutdown mode" when supply current drops to 1uA. According to Jae Song, Dongbu HiTek SVP of sales and marketing, "We are committed to expanding our support of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor development in China, and are very pleased that WST chose our specialized BCDMOS foundry to process their power converters. We look forward to expanding our partnership with WST as it diversifies its BCDMOS converter portfolio to include 1A/2A/3A versions implemented at the 0.18um node." Dongbu HiTek stepped up its support of the burgeoning Chinese semiconductor market when it established customer service/sales operations in Shanghai and Shenzhen earlier this year. The Korean company aims to expand its analog IC foundry business in China by offering the broadest choice of power management IC (PMIC) processing technologies, including a high-voltage 700V process that will soon be added to its specialized portfolio. According to iSuppli, the worldwide PMIC market is forecast to exceed $43 billion in 2015, posting a 7.2% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the prior five years. The PMIC market in China is expected to approach $15 billion in 2015, posting a 9.7% CAGR over the same five years as it commands about one-third of the worldwide total.
