The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) along with other minority professional engineering society partners was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to increase the diversification of the engineering professorate. To realize this goal, AISES will engage Native American early-career faculty, post-doctoral professionals, and graduate students in all engineering fields. This engagement will support participant professional development and expansion of their professional networks.
With the support of the ASSIST grant, AISES will be able to bring together up to 40 engineering early-career faculty, post-doctoral professionals, and graduate students at the AISES National Conferences for the next four years. At the National Conference, AISES will deliver professional development workshops on a variety of topics from understanding academic career opportunities, demystifying promotion and tenure, to grant proposal writing and review process, as well as navigating academia as Native people and engineers. To provide these opportunities, AISES will engage Native academic leaders and federal funding agencies to support the success and persistence of diversity in the engineering academic career pathways.
The seven partner organizations of the ASSIST grant are:

SACNAS, Advancing Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
Travel Funding to the AISES National Conference
Awards will cover expenses incurred traveling to and attending the AISES National Conference up to $2,000. Eligible expenses include round-trip airfare, lodging, and conference registration. Any remaining funds, after those items are paid, may be used for other associated travel costs and/or meals. AISES will only provide lodging for four (4) nights on November 18, 19, 20, and 21, 2015. Participant travel days will be Wednesday, November 18 and Sunday, November 22, 2015.
Eligibility
To be eligible for an ASSIST travel grant applicants must be a faculty member, post-doctoral scholar, or graduate student in addition to meeting the following criteria:
Faculty and post-doctoral applicants must hold engineering appointments in an ABET- accredited institution; and faculty from two-year colleges must teach STEM-related courses.
Faculty applicants must have held their appointment for five years or less.
Post-doctoral applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in engineering no more than 48 months prior to their application.
Graduate students must be working on their Ph.D. in an engineering field, be in good standing, and be enrolled as full-time students.

A NSF Biographical Sketch
Statement of Interest – this statement should describe what the applicant hopes to gain by participating in the conference and how the experience will benefit them and their career.
Statement of Diversity Contribution – this statement should describe the applicant’s contributions to engineering diversity as well as their future diversity-related goals.
AISES only accepts applications submitted online via their online scholarship platform.
