Freescale Semiconductor has initiated customer sampling for its QorIQ LS1 family of dual-core SoCs. This innovative family of pin-compatible communications processors is the first available in the QorIQ LS series based on Layerscape architecture from Freescale. Leveraging more than 20 years of networking expertise, the ARM®-based QorIQ LS1 family offers exceptional efficiency and security, together with the broadest array of high-speed interconnects and features offered in a sub-3W communications processor.

The LS1 family is ideal for automation and control equipment, low-power networking products and next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) gateways. The family consists of three pin-compatible parts, all of which feature dual ARM Cortex®-A7 cores, ECC protected L1 and L2 caches for high reliability, as well as secure boot and ARM TrustZone® support. QorIQ LS1 processors also feature high-speed interfaces designed to deliver outstanding LAN and WAN networking performance.

Freescale is collaborating with Oracle and ARM to develop an IoT gateway platform built on a QorIQ LS1 processor and planned for availability in Q4 2014. The platform is based on a secure, standardized and open infrastructure for the delivery and management of IoT services.

Demonstration at Computex
The first demonstration of the QorIQ LS1 devices is planned for June 3, 2014, at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan, where the TWR-LS1021, a modular development platform, will be displayed in Freescale’s meeting suites.

Availability
QorIQ LS1 processors are now alpha sampling, and full volume production is scheduled for Q3 2014. For sampling and pricing information, please contact Freescale Semiconductor, a local Freescale sales office, or an authorized distributor. Pricing for LS1 processors will start at less than $12 (USD) for 10Ku volumes.
