Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select: ISIL) today introduced the ISL3261x series of RS-485/RS-422 transmitters and receivers designed to meet the strict power budgets of battery and remote sensing applications. Operating from an industry-low 1.8V supply voltage and consuming less than 150uW, this new family is the optimal solution for designers who need to increase battery life and/or reduce the size of their power supply. The ISL3261x series includes the ISL32613/14 transmitters and the ISL32610/11/12 receivers. They each operate with voltage ranges from 1.8V to 3.6V, and data rates that reach 256kbps. All of the devices in the series provide 16.5kV ESD protection and operate at up to 125 degrees C, making them ideal for harsh environments and battery-powered or solar-powered sensor applications. The ISL32613E/14E transmitters consume up to two orders of magnitude less current when operating at 1.8V versus 3.6V. The ISL32610/11/12E receivers feature symmetrical switching points (±200mV) and increased hysteresis. The symmetrical switching points eliminate duty cycle distortion introduced by "full-failsafe" type receivers, while the larger hysteresis increases noise immunity. Ultra-low bus currents of ±40uA allow more than 256 transmitters on a network, with no repeaters, while still meeting the RS-485 specification's 32-unit load maximum. Features and Specifications
