Doble Engineering will host its 13th annual Life of a Transformer Seminar, February 9-13, 2015 in San Antonio, TX. The seminar is the world’s leading training experience on the critical aspects of power transformers, and will be led by more than 50 global industry experts covering topics including: transformer design and construction, oil analysis and field testing, asset health indexing, condition based monitoring and end-of-life management.

Doble’s Life of a Transformer Seminars have trained more than 7,000 electric power professionals from more than 50 countries across six continents, with another 600 participants expected to attend in 2015. Over the five-day seminar, industry leaders responsible for manufacturing, engineering, production, maintenance and management of power transformers will provide a big picture view of effective transformer management. These experts will also be on hand throughout the event and accessible during the annual seminar expo.

The utility host for this year’s seminar is CPS Energy, the nation’s largest municipally owned energy company, providing natural gas and electric service to the San Antonio area. In his welcoming keynote address, Lee Byrd, director of planning, analysis and communication at CPS Energy, will share how CPS is stepping up to lead Texas, and the nation, into a clean energy future by investing in innovative technologies to protect the environment, help customers use energy more wisely and leverage valuable economic development opportunities.

“We’re very excited to be a host utility for Doble’s Life of a Transformer Seminar. We’re committed, alongside Doble, to providing our customers with safe, reliable power, and that starts with educating our employees,” said Mr. Byrd. “Doble’s investment in training and knowledge sharing plays a critical role in moving this industry forward. The community they’ve built through seminars like this one is powerful.”

Also delivering a keynote is John Adams, executive vice president for power operations at Calpine Corporate, America’s largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources, who will discuss repowering America from an independent power producer perspective. Mr. Adams will also address some of the reliability risks facing utilities’ business models today from a plant operations perspective, as well as Calpine’s high-visibility turbine-generator and its transformer predictive maintenance programs.

“Electric power professionals are working harder than ever to meet increasingly difficult reliability requirements, all while trying to manage an aging infrastructure – and workforce,” said David Zabetakis, president of Doble. “We think that providing tangible and actionable training seminars is the best way to help these men and women do their jobs well and efficiently, while also allowing them the opportunity to continue developing their careers.”

Responding to attendee feedback, Doble made two significant additions to the 2015 program:
· Doble will offer an enhanced Professional Program covering advanced topics, including: proposed IEEE GIC guide and upcoming NERC documents on geomagnetic disturbance mitigation, short circuit withstand, advanced thermal design, noise mitigation and high-temperature liquid immersed transformers.
· A new, three-day Transformer Maintenance Professional Program designed specifically for field engineers and technicians.

Also to be held in 2015, Doble will host two additional Life of a Transformer Seminars. Doble is proud to be hosting its first Middle East event in Dubai, UAE from January 18-22, and will hold its third annual European Life of a Transformer Seminar in Lyon, France from June 1-5.
