SMT releasable poke-in connectors
TE Connectivity, a leader in connectivity, showcased its SMT Releasable Poke-In connector at the light+building 2014 show, Hall 4.0, Booth 26. TE Connectivity is a pioneer in developing innovative interconnect solutions that seamlessly integrate controls and transmit power and data across multiple building systems to enable optimal performance on every level. With the increasing need for design flexibility and ease of installation, the low-profile SMT releasable poke-in wire connectors are designed to simplify direct power lead wire installation and allow for multiple insertions without damage to the connection.
The low-profile design has flat top surfaces allowing for increased vacuum pick-up and rounded corners to minimize shadowing. The connectors are delivered in tape and reel packaging for high-speed SMT and thru-hole processing. The releasable poke-in wire connectors are available in 1, 2 and 3 positions and the SMT releasable poke-in wire connector accepts 18, 20 and 22 AWG solid and stranded wire.
“The SMT releasable poke-in connectors eliminate the need for hand soldering wire leads to the printed circuit boards,” said Alex Hunt III, product manager, TE Intelligent Buildings. “The release mechanism is recessed to eliminate inadvertent activation and functions with ease on multiple wire size/types, resulting in decreased assembly time and applied cost savings.”
The SMT releasable poke-in connectors operate in temperatures between -40°C and 105°C, have minimum wire retention of 5lbs, and can handle current/voltage ratings up to 8A and 400VAC/DC. The connectors are built with RoHS compliant materials. The housing materials are made using high temperature resistant thermoplastic, and the contacts are constructed using tin over nickel plated copper alloy. The connectors have redundant SMT pads that prevent peeling and are side-by-side stackable with pads on 4mm centers.
The SMT releasable poke-in connectors are idea for LED lighting controls, general illumination LED fixtures, interconnecting the strings of printed circuit LED light modules, and various non-lighting applications that require attaching flying leads to printed circuit boards.
