Torex Semiconductor Ltd. has developed a new step-down DC/DC converter, the XC9714 Series. This product supports a maximum input voltage of 36V and an output current of 2.0A, enabling highly efficient and stable power supply across a wide range of applications. In addition, by sharing the same pin configuration as existing high-voltage products, it minimizes the risk of PCB redesign when power specifications change.
The XC9714 Series is a bootstrap-type synchronous step-down DC/DC converter with built-in Nch-Nch driver FETs. It features an input voltage range of 4.5V to 36V, an adjustable output voltage from 2.5V to 18.0V, and an output current of 2.0A. The switching frequency is 800kHz, and the operation mode can be selected via the MODE pin between “PWM control” and “PWM/PFM control.” PWM control maintains a constant frequency regardless of load, making noise suppression easier. Furthermore, the quiescent current is as low as 9μA, ensuring high efficiency even under light load conditions (IOUT ≤ 10mA) when PWM/PFM mode is selected, contributing to overall system power savings from light to heavy loads.
Pin Compatibility for Enhanced Design Flexibility
A key feature of this product is that, although its specifications (such as voltage rating and output current) differ from existing products like “XC9711” and “XC9702,” it adopts the same pin configuration. This allows smooth design migration with only minimal PCB layout modifications when power requirements change during development, significantly reducing design workload and shortening development time.
Rich External Adjustment and Protection Functions
The output voltage can be adjusted via external resistors, allowing the same part number to be used across multiple power lines. By connecting a resistor and capacitor to the EN/SS pin, the soft-start time can be externally adjusted to be longer than the internal soft-start. In addition, the Power Good function enables output voltage monitoring, making it easy to configure complex power sequencing by combining these features.
For safety, the device integrates comprehensive protection functions including current limit, output overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, and Lx pin short-circuit protection, contributing to improved reliability in a wide range of electronic equipment, including demanding industrial applications. Torex will continue to swiftly develop products that meet market needs and contribute to a richer and more abundant society.
