ABB, a leading power and automation technology company, iannounced details for an upcoming “grid modernization” webinar series this fall. This free series, sponsored by the ABB Smart Grid Center of Excellence, will examine the major challenges and groundbreaking solutions facing the power industry today.

The power industry is undergoing a 100-year transformation and as a result, it faces unprecedented challenges, such as the integration of distributed energy resources, grid interconnection for intermittent renewable energy, making energy storage more efficient, ambitious new regulations and a rapidly aging grid infrastructure. The convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) is certainly helping utilities manage these challenges, but it raises a new set of complicated questions about which technologies work best for a particular application, and how to integrate these new solutions with existing systems.

This free grid modernization webinar series will tackle these issues head-on and provide “POWERful insights” for the evolving grid from several experts with years of first-hand smart grid experience.

The series is made up of four one-hour webinars this fall (all times are Eastern Time):
·         Asset Management: You can’t afford to wait. September 30, 11:00 am; featured Presenters: Howard Self, Marlene Benoit, Shawn Lyndon (Ventyx).
·         Steps to grid modernization: It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. October 16, 2:00 pm; Presenters: Gary Rackliffe, Howard Self, David Frame.
·         The future of energy storage, beyond the batteries: Is energy storage really a viable solution? November 13, 11:00 am; Presenter: Pat Hayes.
·         Leveraging smart grid technologies to manage distributed energy resources: Are you on the DER bandwagon? December 16, 2:00 pm; Presenters: Gary Rackliffe, Howard Self, Clinton Davis (Ventyx).
