ADL Embedded Solutions, a leading a provider of industrial single-board computers (SBCs), systems and peripherals all the way to turnkey embedded systems for use in harsh environments, has announced the ADLD2700PC - the first PCIe/104 CPU board with Intel's latest Cedarview-D ATOM processor, the D2700. This dual-core processor with a 2 x 2.13 GHz clock speed uses Intel's Hyper-Threading Technology to support four threads and has 1 MB of L3 cache. The new CPU board can be equipped with up to 4 GB of SODIMM DDR3 1066MHz DRAM memory. For its system controller hub, the new product uses Intel's ICH9-SFF, which offers significantly better product features and a performance boost compared to the trimmed-down NM10. Due to its low thermal design power (TDP) of 10 watts, this new generation of boards is excellently suited for mobile applications in harsh environments with stringent demands for performance and battery life. Examples include automation, automotive, digital signage, entertainment, medical, military, point of sale, and retail applications. "With the new ADLD2700PC board, ADL Embedded Solutions is systematically expanding its portfolio of PCIe/104 products," said Martin Kristof, operating manager at ADL Embedded Solutions GmbH. "The new CPU module is based on Intel's latest generation of ATOM processors from its Cedarview family, which features reduced power consumption and significantly higher performance. Together with the fast DDR3-memory controller that has been integrated into the CPU and the highest-performing graphics unit to date in the entire ATOM family, our CPU board provides a clear boost in performance across the wide range of embedded applications." The interfaces offered include eight USB 2.0 and two Gigabit LAN ports, PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse as well as two COM ports. With the aid of external adapter boards, these RS232 ports can be converted to RS232 (isolated) or 485 (isolated) ports. These options are joined by a 7.1-channel HD audio interface and an optional PCIe MiniCard socket on the underside of the board, which make additional expansions possible through the use of PCI Express MiniCards (GSM/EDGE/3G/LTE, Wifi, solid-state disk, etc.). For data storage, there are two S-ATAII 3 GB/s channels with Intel RAID-0/1Rapid Storage-Technology available. One special highlight in the new CPU architecture is the integrated Intel GMA3650 GPU. Based on the fast, 640 MHz PowerVP SGX545 graphics core, it offers twice the performance of the familiar Intel GMA3150 from Intel's Pineview series. The video controller supports DirectX 10.1 with PixelShader 4.0 as well as OpenGL 3.0. Full-HD playback (1080p) is also possible, as is the playing of Blu-Ray media in line with the "Profile 2.0" specification. For controlling two independent monitors, there are HDMI/DVI, DisplayPort, VGA, and 18/24-Bit LVDS ports available. The maximum resolution is 1.920 x 1.200 pixels. Additional technical features include a hardware monitor and a watchdog timer as well as advanced ACPI 3.0 and APM 1.2 power management functionality. This single-board computer with dimensions of 90 mm x 96 mm is operated with a 5 volt or 12 volt supply voltage. It runs Microsoft operating systems such as Windows 7, Embedded Standard 7, Embedded Compact 7, XP or XP Embedded as well as Linux and real-time operating systems such as Windriver VxWorks. The ADLD2700PC board operates in the standard temperature range from -20°C to +70°C. An optional version is available for the extended industrial temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. For this Cedarview CPU board, ADL Embedded Solutions offers a broad selection of highly efficient active and passive cooling solutions.
