Advanced Energy 2014: smart grid, advanced lighting, & manufacturing

    04/02/2014

The Smart Grid Track at Advanced Energy 2014 examines the future of electricity generation and distribution from microgrids to utility-scale systems, and the integration of renewable energy sources. The Manufacturing Energy Efficiency session explores process-related technologies that reduce both energy consumption and costs, and the session on Advanced Lighting presents the latest thinking on energy-efficient illumination and human factors. Collectively, they bring together a spectrum of ideas, concepts and techniques for optimizing energy usage during transmission, distribution and through to the final consumer.

According to Mark Torpey, Director of Clean Energy & Market Development at NYSERDA, “Improving the long-term resiliency of the grid for the benefit of all consumers is essential. The challenge of integrating intermittent renewable resources at both the transmission level and behind the meter is further complicated by the impacts of climate change and consumers’ need for better information to make the right decisions. NYSERDA and the NYS Department of Public Service are leading the way to provide customers with a greater suite of energy options and advanced technologies while concurrently maintaining the highest levels of reliability.”

“With smart grid development at the forefront of New York’s advanced energy priorities, it is important that utilities, technology providers, regulators, and research institutions have opportunities to collaborate and share best practices to modernize the grid. The smart grid track provides such an opportunity by gathering many key stakeholders to discuss the progress being made while providing an open forum to exchange ideas around the most recent innovations" said Nancy Doon, Senior Manager of the New York State Smart Grid Consortium and the Director of the New York City Environmental Division of VHB Engineering.
