AVX, a leading manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, has expanded the capacitance range for its High-Voltage Multilayer Ceramic (MLC) Chip Capacitor Series. Available in both X7R and NP0 (C0G) options, the High-Voltage MLC Chip Series now offers voltages spanning 600V to 5000V and capacitance values spanning 1.5pF to 0.82µF in case sizes ranging from 0805 to 3640. Exhibiting high capacitance values, low ESR at high frequencies, and excellent performance across all voltages, the series is ideal for use in a wide variety of automotive, medical, commercial, and industrial electronics applications, particularly as snubbers, resonators, filters, and DC blocking caps in high voltage multipliers, high frequency power converters, and switch mode power supplies (SMPS).

“High value, low leakage, and small size are difficult parameters to meet in capacitors designed for use in high voltage systems. However, our newly expanded range of High-Voltage MLC Chip Capacitors not only satisfies these performance characteristics, but exhibits low ESR at high frequencies as well, providing high voltage systems design engineers with a broad range of application-specific solutions,” said Mark Obuszewski, Business Manager at AVX.

Rated for operating temperatures spanning -55°C to +125°C, the High Voltage MLC Chip Capacitor Series is available in nine voltages: 600V, 630V, 1000V, 1500V, 2000V, 2500V, 3000V, 4000V, and 5000V and nine case sizes: 0805, 1206, 1210, 1808, 1812, 1825, 2220, 2225, 3640, although nonstandard chip sizes are available upon request. Termination options for the series include Pd/Ag and plated Ni/Sn, both of which are RoHS compliant, as well as SnPb. Additionally, leaded versions of the 1825, 2225, and 3640 capacitors are available in either thru-hole or SMT configurations.

AVX’s High-Voltage MLC Chip Capacitor Series is compatible with SpiCap 3.0 SPICE modeling software, and is available with standard lead times. Samples, kits, and pricing are available upon request.
