AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has released the new TransGuard® and StaticGuard VCLD Series multilayer varistors with Sn/Pb terminations, which feature a minimum of 5% lead (Pb). Designed specifically to support customers who cannot accept pure tin components in their applications, especially within the defense industry, the new VCLD Series varistors provide EMI/RFI attenuation and bi-directional overvoltage protection against transient events such as ESD, inductive switching, lightning, and nuclear electromagnetic pulses (NEMP) in a single SMT package. Featuring extremely fast response times to ESD strikes, multi-strike capabilities, high reliability, radiation resistance, and EMI/RFI filtering in the off-state, the new TransGuard® and StaticGuard VCLD Series multilayer varistors with Sn/Pb terminations are rated for use in temperatures spanning -55°C to +125°C and are ideal for applications including: IC protection, micro controllers, relays, I/O ports, keyboard protection, portable devices, and radios, among others. "AVX is committed to supporting the specialized needs of all of its customers. With the introduction of this new SnPb Termination TransGuard® and StaticGuard varistor series, we are expanding our offering of high-reliability circuit protection devices to include components specifically designed for customers who cannot use pure tin components in their applications, including our valued defense industry customers," said Jiri Machanicek, Product Manager at AVX. TransGuard® VCLD Series varistors are available in four cases sizes (0603, 0805, 1206, and 1210), 16 working voltages (spanning 5.6VDC to 85VDC), 13 energy ratings (spanning 0.05J to 2.0J), and 19 clamping voltages (spanning 18V to 150V). StaticGuard VCLD Series varistors feature a working voltage of 18VDC, a clamping voltage of 50V, and are availble in three case sizes (0603, 0805, and 1206) and two energy ratings (0.05J and 0.1J). Additional physical and electrical characteristics can be achieved by contacting AVX to request SnPb terminations for its other varistor series. AVX
