Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, today announced its PF-PVC150R Series POWrFuse™ High-Power Fuses specifically designed for photovoltaic (gPV) applications. The new series features enhanced voltage and current ratings that comply with the UL 248-19 standard, which is required for protection in gPV applications. The series’ higher voltage rating meets the evolving demands of next-generation solar power systems, while its expanded current range supports broader application needs as well as helping to extend R&D flexibility.
“The latest voltage trend in solar applications, especially in utility-scale and commercial solar systems, is to support higher voltages that will help improve efficiency and reduce system costs. Up from the previously used 1000 VDC, 1500 VDC systems are becoming the new standard,” said Jennifer Joseph, vice president of Bourns Protection Division. “Our PF-PVC150R POWrFuse™ series is the right fit for this trend, giving designers the ability to lower system costs with fewer inverters and less wiring, and deliver higher efficiency from reduced I²R power losses.”
The PF-PVC150R series features 1500 VDC and 4-30 A ratings, and up to a 50 kA interrupting rating (IR) to help support improved power density and space utilization. The new series offers versatile package options with both ferrule and crimp cap configurations available to maximize installation flexibility, and these high-power fuses are compatible with larger PV modules and string lengths.
The Bourns® PF-PVC150R Series POWrFuse™ High-Power Fuses are available now through Bourns’ authorized distribution partners, and are RoHS* compliant and halogen free. For more detailed product information, please go here.
