Bourns® MH1608A Series compact EMI suppression for high-current designs

Bourns announces the release of the MH1608A Series High Current Chip Ferrite Beads, an AEC‑Q200‑compliant, automotive grade component family designed to suppress high‑frequency noise in space‑constrained electronic designs. The series combines a compact 1.6 × 0.8 mm footprint with low DC resistance and rated current capability of up to 5 A, supporting EMI control without increasing conduction losses in dense PCB layouts.

As automotive and industrial electronic systems continue to increase in current density, designers are required to manage conducted and radiated noise within shrinking board areas while maintaining thermal margins and meeting qualification requirements. Conventional ferrite beads may limit current handling or introduce excessive DC resistance, creating tradeoffs between EMI suppression effectiveness and power efficiency. These constraints are amplified in high‑density assemblies where available routing and component placement options are limited. The MH1608A Series is intended to address these design pressures by supporting higher current levels in a small, automotive‑qualified package.

“High‑current automotive designs often require EMI suppression components that do not become a thermal or electrical bottleneck,” said Edward Liu, Product Line Manager, Magnetics at Bourns. “The MH1608A Series is designed to support higher current handling in a compact footprint while meeting AEC‑Q200 requirements, which helps simplify component selection in dense automotive layouts.”
