CDM Electronics expands audio and mid-range power connector inventory

    04/11/2014

CDM Electronics, a premier authorized distributor of electronic connectors and cables, announced a significant expansion of their MIL-DTL-55116 (part #M55116) audio frequency connectors and MIL-DTL-55181 (part #M55181) mid-range power connectors. CDM is an authorized stocking distributor for the complete line of TacCom connectors, and accepts online orders for prototype as well as production quantities. The MIL-Spec parts are field proven in a wide range of SINCGARS (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System), JTRS (Joint Tactical Radio System) radios and other tactical communication systems. A comprehensive portfolio of QPL and customized products are offered to assist OEMs rapidly develop application specific solutions including custom connector/cable assemblies.

The battlefield-tested M55116 audio frequency plugs and receptacles feature metal and over-molded shell construction, J-slot twist lock mating and spring-loaded, button-to-pad contact. The panel or cable-mounted connectors are vibration resistant to promote a consistent, secure contact. Contacts are gold over nickel. Parts are available with solder, crimp and PC tail contacts and in multiple filtered versions. They feature a dielectric strength of 500 V (rms) in 5- or 6-contact versions, and insulation resistance of 1000 megohms min. Additional M55116 specifications include durability of 3,000 cycles, air pressure of 2.5 psi, and water immersion of 40 hrs. at 6 ft.

QPL certified, the M55181 mid-range power plugs and receptacles support cable-to-cable and cable-to-panel mounting. Their heavy-duty gaskets and O-rings ensure a watertight seal to prevent moisture, dust and dirt contamination. Parts are corrosion-resistant, with aluminum alloy receptacles and high-impact solid brass plug construction that resists impact damage. For additional impact protection, connectors' heat-tempered nosepiece is made of hardened alloy steel. The vibration-resistant parts' contacts are gold over nickel. Mating is easily accomplished by turning a center locking, double-lead screw.

The 4-contact M55181 connectors support a dielectric strength of 2000 V (rms) with voltage drop of 20 mV at 35 Amps, whereas 9- and 18-contact versions' dielectric strength is 1500 V (rms) with voltage drop of 25 mV at 7.5 Amps. Insulation resistance is 1000 megohms min. at 500 VDC. Part's further feature a durability of 500 cycles, air pressure of 2.5 psi, and water immersion of 48 hrs. at 6 ft.
