C&K Components Expands Tactile Family with Side-Actuated Ultra-Miniature SMT Switch

    10/27/2010

C&K Components, a leading international supplier of tact switches, toggle, rocker and pushbutton switches, and smart card interconnect devices, is expanding its tactile product family with a new series of ultra-miniature, side-actuated tact switches for surface-mount termination. An integrated side actuator with over travel ensures excellent shock resistance and yields an excellent tactile ratio of 30% minimum, providing sharp feedback. Designated the NSS series, the low-profile switches with hard actuators are ideal for applications such as mobile phones, Bluetooth headsets and handheld electronics. "The newest version of the popular ultra-miniature tact switches was developed in response to customer demand," said Jerome Smolinski, Senior Product Manager for C&K Components. "This option provides an outstanding resistance to shock and overload due to an integrated over travel and location on the PCB." The NSS series provides normally open contact and is designed to be compatible with surface-mount technology termination. With a footprint of 4.8mm x 4.0mm and a low profile of 1.0mm, the switch enhances sleek and compact device designs. Its durability was proven in its high resistance to drop testing (up to 1 meter) and allows for more than 300,000 lifecycles. The switch actuation force is 2N, and the actuator travel is 0.25 mm with an additional over travel of 0.35 mm. Designed for an operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C, the IP67-rated NSS Series can withstand a static overload of over 70N. The NSS series meets requirements for RoHS compliance and is compatible with the lead-free reflow soldering process of SMT devices as well as pick-and-place machines. There is also a grounding pin for ESD protection and mechanical protection. www.ck-components.com
