    Eaton explores strategies for increasing U-rack space at Data Centre World 2014

    Eaton is presenting an important paper examining the latest techniques for improving rack and equipment densities in data centres at this month’s Data Centre World. The presentation will form part of the conference programme accompanying this year’s exhibition taking place 26th – 27th February at ExCel in London.

    The paper, “How Many Elephants Can You Get in a Rack? Strategies for Increasing U Space Availability” will be presented by Gary Bowdler, UK Sales and Marketing Director for Eaton’s B-Line Business, who has many years of experience in the design and applications of IT enclosure systems.

    “In recent times, a lot of attention has been focussed on improving data room power efficiency,” said Gary Bowdler. “This has led to the development of standardised metrics, such as power usage effectiveness (PUE) and data centre infrastructure efficiency (DCIE) which, together with initiatives like the BCS’s development of the ‘EU Code of Conduct and Data Centre Energy Efficiency’, are helping data centre operators to optimise infrastructure and equipment density.”
    “With this in mind, my paper looks at ways in which operators can further improve rack and equipment densities, exploring options that are relevant to both new fit outs and to refits. From equipment layout to basic design architecture, the paper explains how power efficiency, equipment balancing and physical equipment containment designs are interlinked, and examines ways of maximising return on investment.”

    The paper will be presented in the Facilities and Critical Equipment Theatre at the Data Centre World exhibition on Thursday, 27th February, at 13:25.

    On the Eaton stand (H40) visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to see demonstrations of VMware Ready TM Intelligent Power TM Manager (IPM) software, as well as inspecting the latest Eaton 93PM, 9PX and 5PX ranges of high-efficiency UPS systems, together with versatile ePDU power distribution products and innovative products from the B-Line range of flexible cost-effective enclosures for IT applications.

    In addition, visitors who have their badges scanned on the stand will be entered automatically in a competition to win an Apple iPad Air and those who complete a short questionnaire will also have the chance to win a free on-site survey to help improve the efficiency of their data centre in line with the EU Code of Conduct.
