Eaton announced its latest dual-purpose arc fault/ground fault (AF/GF) circuit breaker for contractors, specifying engineers and home owners working on new construction and renovation projects in the residential and light commercial markets. As part of Eaton’s expanding line of arc fault and ground fault solutions, the dual purpose AF/GF circuit breaker combines arc fault and ground fault protection into a single package, allowing for quick installation and easy access, identification and reset of tripped circuits.

Eaton’s circuit breaker meets changes in the 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC), which now require arc fault circuit interruption (AFCI) protection in addition to ground fault circuit interruption (GFCI) protection in kitchens and laundry areas. By combining AFCI and GFCI, Eaton enables a lower installed cost compared to code-approved alternatives that require multiple devices.

“Eaton understands the importance of safety in the home, and this latest solution provides complete protection from arc and ground faults for the entire circuit, including home-runs,” said Jay Haugen, product manager, Electronic Miniature Circuit Breakers, Eaton. “Our expertise, impactful solutions and customer-focused approach enables us to develop innovative products that help protect your home and family.”

The dual purpose AF/GF circuit breaker includes Eaton’s proven reliability of arc-fault detection to reduce unwanted tripping due to interaction with devices or appliances. Additionally, the device features an integrated light-emitting diode (LED) indicator that identifies seven different causes of trips to reduce troubleshooting time.
