Envision Solar International, a leading renewable energy company, announced the successful trial deployment of the EV ARC™ Electric Vehicle Charging station free to all customers who visit the cell phone lot of the San Diego International Airport.

Engineered and manufactured in the United States, the EV ARC™ is the worlds first and only fully autonomous, fully mobile, fully renewable, easy-to-install, standalone solar charging station that requires no foundation, no trenching, no building permit and no electric grid connection. It fits inside a standard parking space and generates approximately 16 kWhrs per day which is stored in the 22 kWh on-board battery storage. The system is also equipped with EnvisionTrak™, a proprietary and patent pending tracking solution, which enables the solar array to track the sun, generating 18 to 25 percent more electricity.

“Envision Solar is very excited by the response the EV ARC has received from television and news media on its first day of deployment,” said Desmond Wheatley, President and CEO of Envision Solar. “Our goal was to provide a transportable and easy to install, completely green energy charging system without any negative impact to the cell phone lot at the airport. We are grateful to the San Diego International Airport for allowing us to showcase that we have clearly delivered on this goal – within minutes of delivery, we had an electric vehicle plugged in and charging. There is no other solution available today that can offer this speed of deployment and the fantastic benefit of driving on sunshine – in other words, free fuel. Envision Solar is marketing this product globally and the results of this highly visible trial will be very helpful to those efforts.”

The past year has seen a major increase in deployments of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). This acceleration is a direct result of developments in the market for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs): According to a new report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, the EVSE market will expand steadily, as well. Unit sales of EVSE will rise from under 200,000 in 2012 to 3.8 million in 2020. By 2020, the study concludes, 11.4 million EV charging stations will be in operation worldwide.

The Cell Phone Lot at SDIA is located west of the Commuter Terminal off of Harbor Drive. The EV ARC system will be available for individuals free of charge for approximately two weeks, starting on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. A one-hour limit is in place for those using the Cell Phone Lot, so those with electric vehicles will be able to use the EV ARC to “top off” their vehicles.
