NTC announced that is has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Fierce Innovation Awards: Energy Edition, a utility-reviewed awards program from the publishers of FierceEnergy and FierceSmartGrid. NTC was selected as a finalist for its innovative, industry leading product, Trickle Up! Customer Engagement System.

Finalists’ applications were reviewed by an exclusive panel of executives from major North American utilities including CenterPoint Energy, Commonwealth Edison, Duke Energy, Florida Power & Light, National Grid, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Portland General Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric. Full profiles of the judges can be found at https://www.fierceinnovationawards.com/energy/2014/judges.

All applications were evaluated based on the following criteria: technology innovation, financial impact, market validation, compatibility with existing networks, end-user customer experience and overall level of innovation.

Trickle Up! is NTC’s exciting customer engagement system that generates measurable reduction in home energy usage through an innovative technology system, focused on a link between school and household. This system engages entire families, changing their usage behavior, empowering them to become the driving force behind the resulting energy savings. And the results are impressive.

Our breakthrough innovation to reduce kWh usage is our live theatre programs, featuring iconic characters, which provide 100% access to schools for utilities. NTC’s live shows, tied to themed websites, make ordering Household EE kits fun, easy and compelling:

Superheroes in a city that needs an energy efficiency hero!
Cowboys with a dude ranch in need of new conservation tools!
Pirates on a desert island where X marks the spot for a free EE kit!

NTC gets the students excited about energy efficiency and encourages them to call upon their parents to order EE kits on our website, which is themed to the in-school program. Each kit contains conservation information and free tools such as CFLs, energy- efficient showerheads, aerators and smart strips. Once ordered, installation is tracked and savings are measured.

Through basic storytelling and the cutting edge technology of a multiplatform delivery system, NTC teaches kids and parents conservation skills, engaging them with a basic call to action: Order the kit. Install the components. Save energy and money.

“Live theater is a dynamic teaching platform, especially when combined with online curriculum gameification that engages parents,” affirms Ward Eames, president of NTC. “Even young students can understand that they have energy choices. And the younger they begin learning, the more likely students will retain these concepts throughout their life. The theatrical comedy format we use makes the information enjoyable to students, and more importantly it makes that information memorable. Teachers have told us many times that they hear their students repeating lines from the show, or acting like the characters—these lessons definitely stick with them.”
