GE Lighting showcased its latest range of energy-efficient lighting for indoor and outdoor applications at Light Middle East, the conference and exhibition for lighting design and technology held this October at the Dubai International Convention Center. With its regional distribution center located in Dubai and a strong regional footprint in indoor and outdoor lighting in the Middle East, GE Lighting is underlining importance of energy-efficient lighting to support sustainable development through its participation at the exhibition. A headline sponsor, GE Lighting also supported, for the second time, the Best in Class competition—a designer talent contest open to university students in the region for developing energy-efficient lighting design using GE Lighting's light sources. Diederik de Stoppelaar, Global Outdoor leader of GE Lighting, explained: "Lighting today accounts for nearly 20% of all electricity consumption globally, of which up to 75% can be saved by switching to energy-efficient LED lighting. At Light Middle East, we are reiterating how LED lighting can be integrated in everyday living and development projects in the region, which today witnesses growing demand for power led by the increase in population and massive infrastructure developments. The special showcase of outdoor lighting at Light Middle East is a perfect fit to the region's current focus to develop road, bridge, tunnel, and metro networks. Efficient lighting is integral not only for promoting energy efficiency but also boosting safety, especially outdoors." GE Lighting
