Hitec QPS UPS

Hitec Power Protection, a leader in dynamic UPS systems for the supply of uninterruptible, continuous, and conditioned power to mission critical applications, today announced its introduction of the QPS uninterruptible power system (UPS) to the U.S. data center market. Designed for a 25+ year lifecycle, the Hitec Power Protection QPS system is a completely engineered power solution in a flexible, modular design. The QPS provides full UPS functionality to protect mission critical systems. Hitec combines individual QPS units to meet customer’s site-specific requirements and provide even greater control over the critical electrical load.

“Any loss of power, whether due to natural disaster or utility failures, is devastating to our customers and their businesses,” said Joe Pepas, President of Hitec Power Protection North America. “The QPS system fulfills the market’s critical need for an uninterrupted and conditioned electrical supply to ensure 24x7 performance while optimizing planned maintenance intervals and minimizing the impact on daily operations.”

With the introduction of the QPS to the U.S. market, Hitec solidifies its proven track record of delivering high-quality UPS systems for the high power requirements of today’s mission critical environments. Energy efficiency is at the heart of the QPS design, enabling data centers to achieve up to 97% end-to-end efficiency. QPS delivers the highest power density per square foot available in the UPS marketplace today with no-break UPS ratings of up to 3,600 kVA.

The Hitec QPS offers:
• An adjustable ride-through timer that prevents the unit’s diesel engine from starting in response to minor power spikes, surges, and other low deviations—significantly reducing fuel usage and extending the life of the diesel engine.
• Ease of installation in almost any configuration, in unconditioned space, with no air conditioning requirements.
• Net Protect, an integrated system that provides temperature monitoring, power measurement, and system analysis functionality for the entire QPS system through a secure communication protocol.
• Optional medium voltage unit that does not require transformers.

Hitec offers medium-voltage UPS units without the use of step-down or step-up transformers, resulting in improved efficiency of at least two percent.

“When you consider 20 or 40 megawatts of power per installation, even a single efficiency point can translate into annual savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars in electricity,” Pepas said. “Hitec customers enjoy a tangible ROI in less than five years, and continue to see savings throughout the 25-year life of a medium voltage QPS system.”
