Lattice Semiconductor’s iCE40 FPGAs are enabling Citizen Watch to bring to market its Eco-Drive Satellite Wave F100 wristwatch, an innovative fusion of technology and beauty that receives and processes satellite signals in real-time to display the correct time anywhere in the world's 40 time zones.

“The iCE40 FPGA was a prerequisite for us to complete our new system design,” said the head of the watch department’s system development section at Citizen Watch Ltd. “Lattice’s solution provided the smallest form factor for processing data received from GPS satellites and computing precise time, faster than any processor for running our custom algorithms and without the need to develop an ASIC.”

The iCE40 FPGA rapidly picks up the precise-time information from the input data of the GPS satellite signal receiver and generates the control signals to adjust the watch to the correct time.
