Sub 1μA IQ Battery Charger Provides Pack Protection

Shunt Battery Charger System with Low Battery Disconnect

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC4071, an easy-to-use, tiny shunt battery system for Li-Ion/Polymer batteries that integrates a charger and battery pack protection in one IC. The LTC4071, with its 550nA operating current, charges and protects batteries from previously unusable very low current, intermittent or continuous charging sources. The LTC4071 can charge at currents up to 50mA. A near zero current (<0.1nA) low battery latching disconnect function protects even low capacity batteries from deep discharge and potentially irreparable damage. Housed in a low profile (0.75mm) 8-lead 2mm x 3mm DFN package, the LTC4071 provides the only complete and ultra-compact battery charger and protection solution operating with low level power sources. The device's feature set is well suited for high impedance, lower power charging source applications, such as energy scavenging/harvesting, resistive isolation or solar-powered systems. It can charge Li-Ion/Polymer, coin cell and thin film batteries. With pin-selectable settings of 4.0V, 4.1V, or 4.2V, the LTC4071's 1% accurate battery float voltage allows the user to optimize the balance between battery capacity and lifetime. An independent high battery supervisory status output indicates a near-fully charged battery. The internal thermal battery conditioner reduces the float voltage to protect Li-Ion/Polymer cells at elevated battery temperatures. Multiple-cell battery stacks can be charged and balanced by configuring several LTC4071 ICs in series. Summary of Features: LTC4071

Linear Technology introduces the LTC6409, a fully differential amplifier capable of driving DC to 100MHz signals with just 1.1nV/?Hz noise and -88dBc HD2/HD3 distortion. Built on an advanced SiGe BiCMOS process, the LTC6409 features 10GHz gain-bandwidth product, 100dB SFDR up to 40MHz, and 1% settling time of 1.9ns. It is ideal for driving the latest high speed ADCs such as the 1.8V 14-bit 150Msps LTC2262-14. The LTC6409 features wide input common mode range of 0V to 3.5V and output common mode range of 0.5V to 3.5V when using a single 5V supply, making it easy to interface ground-referenced signals to differential pipeline ADCs. Gain and feedback resistors are external, allowing the designer to configure the exact gain needed for each application. The amplifier is unity gain stable and high output current of up to 95mA allows it to drive lower value feedback and gain resistors, such as 150Ohm, resulting in very low output noise. The LTC6409 is fully specified to operate with either a 3V or 5V single supply. Despite its wide bandwidth and low noise performance, supply current power consumption is just 56mA max and a shutdown mode reduces this to 500uA when turned off. Turn-on time is typically 160ns. The LTC6409 will find use in pulsed signal applications such as radar signal processing, imaging, high speed test and measurement and communications applications. Summary of Features: LTC6409
