The Insulogix HMA Dissolved Gas Analyzer

Electrical measurement company Megger continues its strategic expansion into on-line monitoring and added-value services for electrical power utilities with this acquisition. Weidmann’s highly respected end user oil analysis laboratory services have become part of Megger, while the latest generation of the Insulogix® HMA Dissolved Gas Analyzer (DGA) monitoring system is also acquired.

Oil Test Laboratories
The nine oil test laboratories in Canada, Mexico and the US will operate as AVO Diagnostic Services, providing the vital knowledge that operators need to help lower risk and improve their electrical system’s reliability. For over 30 years the laboratories have been providing actionable information to international standards through a combination of laboratory, field test interpretation, and engineering expertise, delivering complete diagnostic packages for specific equipment types. Bringing to Megger the people with the laboratory expertise gives us access to a large amount of valuable oil analysis data. In the future, working together with our strategic software partners IPS to develop advanced data analytics software, Megger will provide customers with valuable insight on their specific transformer(s) based on the learnings from this vast data set.

On-line Monitoring DGA product
The acquisition strengthens Megger’s developing presence in the field of on-line monitoring, complementing the existing partial discharge asset monitoring technologies offered by Megger. The InsuLogix® HMA is a high-performance online monitor that detects and monitors faults in power transformers and load tap changers by measuring the levels of Hydrogen (H2), Acetylene (C2H2) and Moisture. The low detection levels provide the actionable information needed to both maintain oil- filled electrical equipment and avoid critical high-energy faults. The product brings the ability to monitor Acetylene into the low-cost world of one and two gas monitors. The Acetylene sensor is based on a technologically advanced laser measurement platform designed specifically for gas detection. Production of this product will be relocated to Valley Forge to complement their current multi-gas DGA product development. Product sales are initially focused on the North American markets, and the product will be relaunched as the “Megger Insulogix 2G” later in the year.
