MIPI Alliance Launches Compliance Program to Strengthen A-PHY Automotive Ecosystem

    05/27/2026
Program is first in the industry to validate compliance of an automotive SerDes standard
Hezi Saar, chair of MIPI Alliance

The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops specifications that standardize wired interfaces for mobile and other connected ecosystems, today announced the launch of the MIPI A-PHY Compliance Program. An industry first for an automotive SerDes standard, the MIPI compliance program allows member companies to validate that MIPI A-PHY devices have been tested and deemed compliant with the relevant specifications and will support the automotive industry’s requirements for multi-vendor integration, functional safety, EMI robustness, and reduced development time and cost for A-PHY-based systems.

MIPI also announced BitifEye Digital Test Solutions GmbH as an authorized test lab (ATL) for the program. BitifEye has been instrumental in the coordination of A-PHY test events around the globe and as an ATL, will continue to coordinate test events and manage the compliance program on behalf of MIPI.

MIPI A-PHY is a standardized, long-reach (up to 15 meters) SerDes solution that enables high-speed connectivity for image sensors and displays in next-generation ADAS, ADS and SDV centralized compute systems. Featuring ultra-high noise immunity and reliability, it supports multiple higher-layer protocols and forms the foundation of MIPI's Automotive SerDes Solutions (MASS) end-to-end framework with built-in functional safety and security. A-PHY-based chipsets have been selected by several OEMs in design wins and implementations.

“The A-PHY Compliance Program reflects MIPI Alliance’s commitment to turning technical innovation into a thriving multi-vendor ecosystem,” said Hezi Saar, chair of MIPI Alliance. “By establishing a trusted compliance framework, we are strengthening confidence across the OEM supply chain and helping enable scalable, high-performance automotive connectivity solutions.”

“Developing a consistent, real-world validation process is essential to delivering value across the A-PHY ecosystem,” said Tom Kopf, chief operating officer, BitifEye Digital Test Solutions GmbH. “As an authorized test lab, we are pleased to support the program’s implementation, helping companies demonstrate readiness to meet the automotive industry’s rigorous requirements for performance and reliability.”

    Compliance Program Overview
Developed by the A-PHY Working Group and progressed by a MIPI Compliance Advisory Group, the program was initiated in response to strong demand from automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers seeking assurance that implementations of MIPI A-PHY and A-PHY-related specifications in the MIPI MASS framework meet stringent industry expectations. The program is being rolled out in phases, with initial testing focused on physical layer compliance based on the current A-PHY reference compliance test suite. Future phases will extend coverage to the link layer and protocol adaptation layers (PALs), ensuring robust interoperability for higher-layer protocols operating over A-PHY links.

Upon program completion, companies will have their products deemed A-PHY compliant and may have their products added to a public registry on the MIPI website.

    Program Evolution
To date, MIPI has held five successful A-PHY test events to develop the program's design and testing methodologies, while also offering companies with devices under test the opportunity to collaborate with test equipment vendors and receive valuable feedback about their devices.Companies who have aided in the program's development through participation in one or more MIPI A-PHY test events include: Beijing ESWIN Computing Technology Co., Ltd; BitifEye Digital Test Solutions GmbH; Keysight Technologies Inc.; Novatek Microelectronics Corp.; Protocol Insight, Inc.; Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation; Tektronix, Inc.; Teledyne LeCroy and Valens Semiconductor. The test events were supported by local facility providers iPasslabs in Taiwan and Resillion in Belgium.

How to Participate in the Program
More information about the program is available on the MIPI A-PHY Compliance Program page.
