Mouser Electronics, Inc., a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, is gearing up to sponsor Chinese race car driver Ho-Pin Tung in his attempt to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. If Tung succeeds this weekend in making the 33-car line up, he will be the first driver from the People's Republic of China to start in "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" on May 29. "I am very excited to take part in the Indy 500," Tung states in an article on his official website, adding that he believes he stands a very good chance at qualifying. "It's a great honor to be the first Chinese driver ever to take part in this very special race." "On this 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, it is a privilege for us to sponsor this talented young Chinese driver in such an historic event," exclaims Larry Johannes, Mouser Electronics' Vice President of Strategic Marketing. He also took part in the post-2010 season testing session at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida, where he made history as the first Chinese licensed driver to take the wheel of an IZOD IndyCar Series car. Tung, poised and confident for such a young driver, shared his thoughts after the rookie test, "It's very exciting," he states. "Everyone knows the Indianapolis Speedway; it's one of the greatest tracks in the world!"
