SAE 2012 Counterfeit Parts Avoidance Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona

Speaker Chuck Amsden, Mouser director, Quality.

The symposium on November 2nd will provide an open technical forum about the risks that counterfeit components pose to aerospace and defense manufacturers. Industry leaders will participate in panel discussions and presentations on key issues, including updates to SAE standards and NDAA requirements; accountability; identification, risk assessments, avoidance protocols, test methodologies, and compliance; DNA-based part authentication; and traceability in the age of globalization. As an AS9120A authorized distributor, Mouser's sponsorship of this SAE International event underscores the company's own dedication to supporting the fight against counterfeit products. "Mouser is dedicated to ensuring its customers receive authorized, genuine components," said Pete Shopp, Mouser Senior VP of Business Operations. "Mouser shares SAE International's commitment to helping the industry identify and avoid counterfeit parts." Chuck Amsden, Mouser's director of Quality, will be one of the symposium's featured speakers. Amsden, who joined Mouse in 2003, has more than 24 years of QA and compliance experience. Amsden directs the quality assurance staff and assures that the company's distribution operations are in compliance with industry and company standards. He has helped lead Mouser to obtaining AS9120A/ISO9001:2008 and ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007 certifications. Amsden also spearheads the company's environmental policies, including lead-free and RoHS, WEEE, packaging waste, and proper disposal of batteries and chemicals, plus other green distribution best practices. Mouser Electronics takes every possible precaution to ensure customers are receiving authorized, genuine components. AS9120A is a quality management certification for distributors to the aerospace industry addressing chain of custody, traceability, control and availability of records. AS9120A certification requires rigorous purchasing, handling, storage, and traceability controls to prevent counterfeit and non-conforming electronic components from entering the supply chain. Mouser carries dual registration to AS9120A and ISO 9001:2008 to serve both customers purchasing aerospace components and those purchasing commercial products, and has also adopted relevant requirements of SAE standard AS5553 Counterfeit Electronic Parts: Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition into their AS9120A Quality Management System. Mouser is also a contributing member on the SAE G-19 Counterfeit Electronic Parts Committee that wrote AS5553 and is currently writing AS6081 Counterfeit Electronic Parts; Avoidance Protocol, Distributors and revision A to AS5553. Mouser is an ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association) and CEDA (China Electronics Distributor Alliance) authorized distributor. Mouser Electronics
