National Semiconductor Corp. has announced the release of SolarMagic™ MYPVDATA™ Solar Operations Center (SOC). Whereas solar systems today are underperforming due to various conditions, MYPVDATA SOC is software as a service (SaaS) that helps users analyse data collected from the array by delivering meaningful information through an easy-to-use web-interface, so maximum energy can be harvested. MYPVDATA SOC is now included with ongoing service subscriptions for all current commercial customers. "We are now adding advanced analytics to our well-known monitoring and management solution," said Peter Rexelius, sales and marketing manager for National's Solar Solutions Business Unit. "Solar operators and financiers can now realise the highest kWh performance while optimising on operation and maintenance costs across multiple installations." Four new tools for analyzing PV-system operation:

  • Performance Analysis - Analyse system performance relative to environmental conditions.
  • Progress Analysis - Track production relative to a configured budget and predict future performance.
  • Symmetry Analysis - Display energy harvest by string (or other unit). This indicates imbalances in the arrays. Quickly detects issues such as excessive dirt and partial shade.
  • Data Analysis - Compare and perform calculations on any data points to create custom graphs and reports.
National's SolarMagic MYPVDATA SOC makes any data point in the system available and helps interpret this data, in a graphical real-time graphing and reporting web-interface. In real-world applications involving shade or other types of mismatch, a comprehensive monitoring and management system can help system owners improve energy harvest by as much as 20 percent. MYPVDATA SOC, photovoltaic system monitoring products and the analogue-intensive power management in-panel chipset are all members of National's SolarMagic product portfolio that work together to improve power output, reliability and cost-effectiveness of solar systems.
