The LAN865x series enables designers to connect 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microcontrollers that do not have a built-in Ethernet media access control (MAC) to 10BASE-T1S single-pair Ethernet (SPE) networks, enabling low-speed devices to connect to a standard Ethernet network, streamlining the need for dedicated communication systems in automotive and industrial applications.
Microchip Technology LAN8650 and LAN8651 single-pair Ethernet switches, available from Mouser, combine the common standard serial peripheral interface (SPI) and MAC, allowing interfacing with virtually any microcontroller and transfer of Ethernet packets utilizing the OPEN Alliance 10BASE-T1x MAC-PHY serial interface specification. The 10BASE-T1S is the latest technology used to expand Ethernet to operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) networks, even when they consist of incompatible devices and different physical hardware, allowing simultaneous transfer, transmission, and receipt of packets between station controllers and the LAN8650 and LAN8651.
The LAN8650 and LAN8651 devices also feature time-sensitive networking (TSN) support, allowing for synchronized timing across far-reaching Ethernet networks, critical for many automotive applications such as advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). The automotive-qualified LAN8650 and LAN8651 are compliant with the AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification standard for enhanced robustness in harsh environments, including extended operational temperature range from −40ºC to +125ºC. In addition, the LAN8650 and LAN8651 are functional, safety-ready and designed for use in ISO 26262 applications.
