O2Micro, a global leader in the design,
development and marketing of high-performance integrated circuits and
solutions, announced a patent grant for its Power Source Detection
topology from the Japanese Patent Office.
This invention, issued 19 claims under Japanese patent number
5,388,484, compares a detection voltage to a predetermined reference
voltage to identify whether the power source is a USB host or an AC
adapter.
Bill Densham, strategic marketing director, O2Micro, remarked: "Like
its U.S. counterpart issued under patent number 8,242,742, it is part
of a charger IC. This topology enables an intelligent charger to adjust
the charging current to the power source capacity. Higher powered
sources will result in faster charging times."
