OMNIVISION Launches Industry's First 2.2-micron Global Shutter HDR Sensor for Flagship Industrial and Robotics Machine Vision Cameras

OMNIVISION, a leading global developer of semiconductor solutions, including advanced digital imaging, analog, and display technology, today announced the industry’s first 2.2-micron (µm) 5-megapixel (MP) global shutter (GS) high dynamic range (HDR) CMOS image sensor that is purpose-built for industrial machine vision applications, such as barcode scanners, factory automation, compact AI cameras and humanoid robotics, especially data-collection devices for robotics training. At a maximum output of 146 frames per second (fps) in linear mode, the new OG05D is 143% faster than previous-generation sensors.

The OG05D GS sensor combines Nyxel® near-infrared (NIR) technology, HDR, low power consumption and a compact optical format in a stacked backside-illuminated (BSI) sensor design—delivering an optimized imaging solution for industrial and robotic vision systems where imaging performance, sensor size and power efficiency are essential. It delivers high dynamic range in a single exposure, reducing motion artifacts associated with multi-exposure HDR approaches. It overcomes the imaging challenges faced by traditional non-HDR sensors through its industry-leading RGB-IR on-chip processing and imaging performance, combined with higher NIR quantum efficiency (QE) and low noise enabled by dual conversion gain (DCG™). Additionally, it is 30% smaller than previous-generation sensors.

“The rapid growth of industrial machine vision and robotics is driving demand for image sensors specifically designed for these emerging applications,” said Kelly Yan, staff product marketing manager, OMNIVISION. “Our new OG05D sensor delivers the ideal combination of compact size, high-speed imaging, excellent HDR performance and industry-leading low power consumption, enabling customers to build smaller, more capable and power-efficient industrial vision systems.”

The OG05D sensor comes in a 1/2.5-inch optical format and the package size is 6.6µm x 5.3µm, ideal for robotic, industrial and embedded AI camera designs. DCG HDR provides high-quality image capture across scenes containing both bright highlights and dark shadows. Enhanced HDR capability improves object detection and navigation in real-world situations where lighting conditions frequently change, including in factories, warehouses and the outdoors.

Key features of the OG05D GS sensor:

    • 2.2µm 5MP BSI global shutter with the industry’s smallest >70dB HDR-capable pixel
    • Nyxel® technology enhances NIR QE at 850nm (>55%) and 940nm (>35%)
    • 30% power reduction from previous-generation 5MP product
    • HDR support: 60 fps DCG™ single-exposure HDR on-chip combination; 60 fps 3-exposure (3s) HDR on-chip combination
    • Supports RGB, mono and RBG-IR
    • RGB-IR on-chip re-mosaic

The OG05D sensor is available now for sampling and will be in mass production in Q4 2026. For more information, go here.
