Phihong Develops Smallest Low-Cost UK Charger

    10/27/2010

Phihong, a global leader in power solutions, has developed the smallest low-cost USB charger available, at just 42 x 43 x 21 mm and weighing 80 grams. Designated the PSM03K, the 2.75W adapter is compliant with the new ENERGY STAR® EPS version 2.0 requirements as well as the European Union's Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC for Energy-related-Products level 2 Annex 1b and the 5-Star Standby Power standard. The USB charger's small size makes it ideal for wireless communications, peripherals, networking and portable and mobile equipment. "Energy efficiency standards are increasingly important for all electronics equipment, including personal and mobile devices, for which USB chargers are standard accessories," said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "Compliance to standards is a vital consideration in our design of new products, and the PSM03E adapter is a direct response to the mobile phone industry directive in the 5-Star Standby Power standard." Designed for applications such as MP3 players, PDAs, digital cameras and mobile phones, the PSM03K provides a fully regulated 5VDC output and a maximum no-load power consumption of <0.03 watts. The device is IEEE1725-certified for charging batteries in mobile phones. The USB mobile charger has a constant-current/constant-voltage feature that allows for quick charge on lithium ion batteries and minimizing downtime for mobile devices. The standard mobile charger also features low-profile, halogen-free casing ensuring that it will not give off toxic smoke in the event of a fire. The charger offers short-circuit protection, over-current protection, and over-voltage protection with an operating temperature of 0°C to 45°C. The adapter meets RoHS, REACH and WEEE directives and is therefore marked for CE compliance. The suggested unit price for the PSM03K adapter is (USD) $3.31 each in 1000-piece quantities.
