RIVERSIDE, Calif., June 7, 2017 - Bourns, Inc. released a new series of high current Power TVS (PTVS) diodes that provide excellent overvoltage protection. Bourns' latest Model PTVS-M series is designed to meet the strict surge requirements in high power DC applications, especially in exposed and harsh environments. Featuring lower clamping voltage under surge, performance stability and increased reliability compared to competing technologies such as MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors), Bourns engineered its Model PTVS-M series using silicon-based technology to deliver superior surge performance characteristics.

Offered in an SMD package, Model PTVS-M can help simplify assembly and reduce costs by eliminating the extra manufacturing step in designs where the PTVS diode is the only through-hole component on the printed circuit board. Furthermore, the innovatively-designed "overmolded" surface mount package makes it an optimal choice for automatic pick and place assembly and reflow processes. These bidirectional TVS devices are available with standoff voltages of 66 V and 76 V, with peak pulse current ratings from 3 kA to 10 kA.

Today's high power DC applications such as AC/DC power supplies used in wireless base stations and remote telemetry stations are required to meet rigorous surge standards such as IEC 61000-4-5. The new PTVS-M series from Bourns supplies robust protection, assisting designers to meet these standards by limiting overvoltage transients to specified low clamping voltages during surges.

The Bourns Model PTVS-M series is RoHS compliant* and available now. As a pricing reference, the Bourns® Model PTVSx-xxxx-M is priced at $24.75 each in 400 piece quantities. For more information, please visit: www.bourns.com/products/diodes/power-tvs-diodes
