The idea of autonomous vehicles is intriguing, if for no other reason than artificial systems should be far safer in the road than humans. But for all the excitement, no autonomous vehicles are currently higher than a 2 on the SAE scale. And many feel the commercial trucking industry could take the first steps towards full autonomy since the nature of the business entails long, predictable routes on largely straight, flat roads.
