RF Micro Devices Achieves ISO/TS 16949 Certification for?Automotive Quality Management Systems

    04/24/2012

RF Micro Devices, a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance radio frequency components and compound semiconductor technologies, today announced it has been granted ISO/TS 16949 certification. The ISO/TS 16949 certificate is the highest international quality standard for the automotive industry, and ISO/TS 16949 certification demonstrates RFMD's commitment to excellence in product design and manufacturing processes for automotive applications. ISO/TS 16949 certification is supported by the automotive industry and incorporates ISO technical specifications that are more stringent than ISO 9001 quality management system requirements. The goal of the ISO/TS 16949 standard is to enhance existing quality management systems, which, when combined with customer-specific requirements, support continual improvement through defect prevention and a reduction in variation and waste in the supply chain. The ISO/TS 16949 standard combines North American and European automotive requirements and serves the global automotive market. Bob Bruggeworth, president and CEO of RFMD, said, "We are pleased to achieve ISO/TS 16949 certification and reinforce RFMD's commitment to continuous improvement in support of our customers. This milestone underscores our commitment to the most stringent standards for manufacturing processes and work procedures, positioning RFMD to significantly expand our presence in the automotive industry." The ISO/TS 16949 certification granted to RFMD covers RFMD's manufacturing facilities in Greensboro, North Carolina. ISO/TS 16949 certification, developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) in conjunction with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) the world's largest developer of standards, aligns existing automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry, and aims to eliminate the need for multiple certifications to satisfy customer requirements and provide a common approach to a quality management system for automotive production. The IATF consists of an international group of vehicle manufacturers including, Chrysler, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault and Volkswagen. www.rfmd.com
