The United States Department of Energy (DOE) – Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) seeks feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on issues related to solar photovoltaic (PV) reliability and durability research and development.

PV modules are exposed to severe operating conditions involving temperature, thermal cycling, ultraviolent radiation, humidity, environmental weathering and soiling, electrical, and other stresses. Due to these conditions, it is necessary to address the risk and uncertainty in PV performance. The Energy Department’s SunShot Initiative therefore seeks information from all relevant stakeholders that will help to determine fruitful areas of research and development that could lead to improved PV module reliability and durability, with the purpose of creating increased demand for PV projects among investors, developers, integrators, and utilities.

Responses to this RFI will inform future SunShot programmatic activity in PV module reliability and durability research and development.
