Intermodulation distortion (IMD) plays an important role for many spectrum analyzer based measurements. Mostly spectrum analyzers are used to measure IMD of a DUT. However, a spectrum analyzer may also contribute to IMD due to the non-linear behavior of its different active components used in its signal path.
