RS Components (RS), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products and the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), has been short-listed in the 2011 Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards in two categories. RS has been nominated as a finalist for the ‘Distributor of the Year' award, while its free-of-charge DesignSpark schematic capture and PCB layout tool will go forward to the final in the ‘Design Tools and Development Software' category. The short-listed finalists in the sixteen Elektra 2011 award categories have been selected by an independent panel of industry judges, with the winners to be announced at an Elektra Awards Dinner and Christmas Party on Thursday 14th December at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge in London. An established annual highpoint of the electronics industry calendar, the Elektra Awards recognise the achievements of individuals and companies throughout Europe. They are designed to promote best practice in key areas including, innovation, sales growth and employee motivation. As a ‘Distributor of the Year' finalist, RS has clearly demonstrated how it has overcome the challenges of the last 12 months and has created initiatives and opportunities for sales growth this year. The company's DesignSpark PCB tool has transformed the PCB design software sector, enabling engineers across the globe to gain easy access to an unrestricted, intuitive and powerful professional standard tool completely free of charge. With more than 100,000 downloads logged over the past year, DesignSpark PCB is a strong contender for the ‘Design Tools and Development Software' award. "We are delighted to have reached the final in not just one, but two categories in this year's Elektra Awards", said Glenn Jarrett, Head of Electronics Marketing at RS Components. "In the past year, we have enriched our approach to market and service delivery and RS has emerged stronger than ever before. We now offer comprehensive online resources for electronics design engineers, and have developed an unwavering customer focus in our global marketing campaigns, product introductions, eCommerce site and Internet based offerings." As part of an initiative to support and inform graduate engineers, RS is also sponsoring the ‘University Department of the Year' Elektra Award, which endeavours to find the most innovative and successful electronic and electrical engineering department within a university or college. www.rs-components.com
