    Single-Chip Solution for ZVS Flyback

    Single-Chip Solution for ZVS Flyback

    03/19/2024

PI has achieved a new level of integration with the latest generation of our flagship InnoSwitch flyback switcher IC family. InnoSwitch5-Pro digitally programmable switcher ICs are a single-chip solution that achieves zero-voltage switching (ZVS) without the costly addition of a high-voltage switch.

The new devices combine ZVS with a PowiGaN primary switch (750 V or 900 V) and the controllability of an I²C interface. This results in the optimal compact, high-efficiency designs for single- or multi-port adapters. Applications include notebooks, home gateways, USB power strips, high-end cellphone chargers and other consumer products.

    Product Highlights:

    • High than 95% efficiency – No heatsinks, spreaders or potting materials needed for thermal management

    • Far fewer components than asymmetric half-bridge or active clamp alternatives

    • Operation from universal mains with or without a PFC stage

    • The most compact designs for USB PD 3.0 Extended Power Range adapters

    • Post-production tolerance offset to facilitate accurate output constant-current control of better than 2%, supporting the UFCS protocol in China

A new reference design kit, RDK-1002, demonstrates the benefits of InnoSwitch5-Pro ICs in a 140 W USB PD adapter that realizes higher than 95% efficiency.
