Tory's 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converter claims fastest-in-class performance for industrial & data storage equipment

    04/07/2016

Torex Semiconductor has launched the XC9266 series of 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converters with an internal 5.5V-operation driver transistor. Equipped with Torex’s unique HiSAT-COT fast transient response control, these converters are presented as the world’s fastest in class.

Recent years have seen a lowering of the core voltage in microcontrollers and FPGA (0.8V to 1.2V), and a high core voltage accuracy (1.0%to3.0%) is in demand. The market is also demanding large capacitors to improve ripple voltage and load transient characteristics. For this reason, power circuit scale is increasing to achieve both low output ripple voltage and a fast transient response.

Equipped with Torex’s novel HiSAT-COT fast transient response control (“HiSAT-COT control” below) to achieve the world’s fastest class, the newly launched XC9266 series of 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converters with an internal 5.5V-operation driver transistor are ideal power ICs for industrial equipment, storage, and other equipment that requires high efficiency and a fast transient response.

Compared to commonly used COT control, Torex’s HiSAT-COT control enables suppression of frequency fluctuations caused by the load and input voltage, and achieves a transient response that is the world’s fastest class in low voltage application area. PWM control or PWM/PFM auto switching control are available as an operation mode and the mode is selectable by using MODE pin.

A fast response, low ripple, and high efficiency are realized across a full range of loads, from light to heavy. The output current is 6.0A, the input voltage range is 2.7V to 5.5V, and the output voltage range is 0.8V to 3.6V with FB voltage accuracy ±1.0%. The switching frequency can be selected from 1.2MHz and 3.0MHz to match the application.

The soft start function enables startup in a quick 0.25ms (fixed internally). This can also be set as desired using an external resistance and capacitance. Internal protective circuits include an over-current protection circuit, a short-circuit protection circuit, and a thermal shutdown circuit. Short-circuit protection or Hiccup can be selected. The IC is housed in a low-profile QFN0404-24C package (4.0 x 4.0 x h0.75mm).
