Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced the launch of two series of white LEDs, the 3.5 x 3.5mm lens package 1W type TL1L2 series, and the 3.0 x 3.0mm flat package 0.6W type TL3GB series. Both have been developed as light sources for general lighting applications (including light bulbs, base lights, down lights and ceiling lights), street lights and floodlights.

Using gallium nitride-on-silicon (GaN-on-Si) process technology, the white LEDs realize low forward voltage (VF) and can contribute to lower power consumption and cost reductions in lighting applications. Forward voltages realized are 2.85V at 350mA (TL1L2-Series) and 5.76V at 100mA (TL3GB-Series). Luminous efficacy for the TL1L2-Series is 135 lm/W (5000K, Ra70) at 1W operation (If=350mA); for the TL3GB-Series it is 118 lm/W(5000K, Ra80) at 0.6W operation (If=100mA). Colour variation of six colour temperatures is 2700K to 6500K.
