TTI is Stocking Integrated Proximity Sensors from Vishay

    04/19/2020

TTI, Inc., is now stocking the VCNL36 family of proximity sensors from Vishay. These sensors are targeted to meet the requirements of various medical, IOT and industrial applications.

These fully integrated proximity sensors include a high power VCSEL coupled with a photodiode for presence and proximity sensing in an SMD package. They incorporate the photodiodes, amplifiers, and analog to digital conversion circuits into a single CMOS ASIC. Having sensing ranges of up to 20cm (7.9 in) at 20 mA pulsed current where other sensors need up to 200 mA. With no need for mechanically isolating the emitter and detector these components significantly simplify the design-in process. The LLC surface mount packages with a low profile 1mm height makes them a perfect candidate for tight spaces with minimal real-estate requirements.

These sensors include a program interrupt function through their I2C bus serial interface. This allows for easy access to the “proximity signal” to utilize the wake-up function in the microprocessor when a proximity change occurs, which is helpful in reducing the overall processing overhead and power requirements. Average current consumption at MAX forward current is 0.80 mA making them well suited for battery operated and power sensitive applications.

VCNL36 products have an unlimited shelf life. Compatible with reflow solder processes according to JEDEC-STD-020D, the devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
