VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) presents VACCOAT® 30033, the advanced successor to VACCOAT® 20011, its adhesive coating and corrosion protection finish. This new green-coloured heat-cured finish provides enhanced protection for VAC permanent rare-earth magnets, particularly under extreme conditions. The protective coating can be used at temperatures up to 200°C in continuous operation and can withstand peak temperatures of up to 250°C for periods of several hours. In addition, the new spray coating provides more effective corrosion protection than its predecessor. VACCOAT 30033 is particularly suitable for salt-water environments and automotive engine and motor applications. The existing VACCOAT 20011 coating is used as both a high-hardness adhesive and a corrosion protection finish. In order to address both uses, however, some compromises were necessary to combine both these properties in a single prod-uct. The design brief for VACCOAT 30033 was specifically to improve corrosion protection at the possible expense of adhesive properties. VAC has achieved this by including special corrosion inhibiting additives to the basic formula of VACCOAT 20011, thus creating a brand-new product in VACCOAT 30033. In comparison to VACCOAT 20011, the new epoxy coating offers protection that survives between two and three times longer in relevant corrosion tests, as well as offering increased strength. When a coating of VACCOAT 30033 was applied to NdFeB magnets at the stan-dard thickness of around 20μm, the material showed corrosion resistance periods of over one thousand hours in typical accelerated corrosion tests for permanent magnets. This high durability, even in salt-water environments, makes VACCOAT 30033 ideal as an effective long-life corrosion protection for magnets in offshore wind turbines and tidal power stations. Further potential is offered in automotive applications, which frequently require a combination of corrosion resistance to EN ISO 9227 salt spray testing and moisture resistance. In these applications, VACCOAT 30033 can greatly extend the service life of magnets used in engines and motors. VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG VACUUMSCHMELZE (VAC), based in Hanau, designs, produces and markets advanced materials, primarily magnetic but also with other physical properties, and related products. In 1914, the first vacuum furnace laid the foundation for today's VACUUMSCHMELZE, which has 1,500 employees. Industrial vacuum melting techniques for alloys have been in operation since 1923. VAC Group today achieves annual sales of around 350 million euros in over 40 countries and is the holder of more than 750 patents, placing it among the world's most highly innovative developers of advanced industrial materials. VAC's range of products comprises a broad array of semi-finished products and parts with superior magnetic and physical properties, inductive components for electronics, magnets and magnetic systems for use in a wide variety of fields and industries spanning watch-making and medical technology, renewable energies, shipbuilding, installation, automotive and aviation. VAC's custom solutions are developed in close collaboration with the customer, reflecting the company's expertise in materials and state-of-the-art production technology.
