Two years since the Fukushima nuclear accident, the future of nuclear energy continues to dominate the global agenda. Uncertainties around its future and the challenging policy choices will be debated by senior figures from industry and government at the 2013 World Energy Congress in October, organizers announced. Dr Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the World Energy Council, commented, "We will be tackling some of the most pressing issues at our World Energy Congress. Is the ‘nuclear renaissance' over? Can an accident like Fukushima happen again? What are the global governance implications? We are delighted and proud to be welcoming leaders from the nuclear energy industry and governance organisations to our Congress for dialogues with energy businesses and ministers." The nuclear agenda at the Congress will be addressed by delegates under the wider theme of "Securing Tomorrow's Energy Today". Major energy providers, international agencies, regulators and governments from Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and North America will share their unique insights on nuclear power with the wider energy and policymaking community. Cho Hwan-eik, Chair of the Organising Committee of the 2013 World Energy Congress, said, "Nuclear power has the enormous potential to contribute to energy security in many regions of the world. The dynamic, energy hungry economies of Asia are no exception, so it is fitting that Korea, with its world-class expertise in the peaceful development of nuclear energy, should host this crucially important debate."
