A new poll has shed some interesting light on the diverse goals and expectations of Apple vs. Samsung smartphone users.

The survey from Sellcell found the two consumer bases in broad agreement on one thing – neither thinks that artificial intelligence, A.I., improves their daily lives.

…which is totally understandable. From an end user perspective, A.I. is still in its infancy, mainly manifesting in generative programs like ChatGPT or OpenAI. A program with the impeccable name of Grok has been making waves on social media.

But it’s all for fun. Nothing that’ll change the world, even if a dive even slightly below the surface will uncover far more tangible applications – like our site, for example, which utilizes A.I. for a number of different functions.

Meanwhile, according to Sellcell’s survey, 73% of iPhone users and 87% of Samsung users say AI features “add little to no value.” This is despite Apple utilizing its new Apple Intelligence platform – in conjunction with OpenAI – to add a suite of AI tools and devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra embedding A.I. “into the very DNA of the device through its custom Exynos chipset,” as Forbes points out.

And here’s where the survey gets interesting – while a full 50% of iPhone users claimed A.I. was a critical factor in their next smartphone purchase (and 1 in 6 would even switch to Android for the right A.I. functionality), only 23.7% of Samsung users felt the same way.

Considering how ubiquitous A.I. is becoming, this A.I.-centric brand loyalty might become a quaint sign of the times, but at least for now, it definitely provides some insight into each user base.
