Florida Utility to Install 30 million solar panels by 2030

Florida Power & Light Company has big plans for the Sunshine State. The utility provider announced their "30-by-30" program to install more than 30 million solar panels by 2030.

If successful, the company claims “30-by-30” will be the largest installation of solar panels by a regulated utility in the world and provide a 67 percent fleet-wide reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions rate by 2030.

And it’s not that far-fetched. FPL is Florida’s largest producer of solar energy – back in 2013, their Solar for Schools program planned to add at least one solar array in 28 different school districts, and today, the company operates 18 large solar power plants. FPL’s first universal solar installation dates back to 1984.

And while the "30-by-30" program will make FPL’s home state a “world leader in solar energy production” (their words), Florida is no stranger to photovoltaics. Florida ranks 8th in the nation in cumulative solar capacity, with almost 2 GW of solar power.

"I am supportive of programs that will provide Floridians with greater access to affordable, clean energy which will help propel the State to a healthier future," said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.  “As Florida's energy needs continue to grow at a rapid pace, it is important that we diversify our energy resources,” he said.
