Latest iOS Update Drains Batteries Up to 25% Faster

Those rascals from Cupertino are at it again – users are reporting battery issues with the latest iOS update.

Users are claiming the iOS 11.4 software update is causing batteries to drain up to 25% faster. Granted, these are just anonymous complaints on Apple forums – and no one complains more than tech geeks, myself included – but the industry isn’t in a particularly forgiving mood. Six months ago, Apple admitted to throttling their own batteries with two separate iOS updates.

    Fool me once…

“My 6S+ … was fine before the update. And my battery health is at 90% yet I just watched my battery % drop from 50% to 20% in a matter of minutes while not using it,” claimed one user.

Some claim that switching from the 5GHz network to 2.4Ghz may be causing the drainage, though nothing is confirmed. For what it’s worth, I updated my iPhone 6 about a week ago and haven’t noticed any tomfoolery, but my antennae are definitely raised.

Last time, Apple stubbornly denied any wrongdoing right up until the moment they copped to it, and the worst part is, they might’ve garnered sympathy – if they came clean immediately. Legacy hardware can’t always keep up with the latest software, and batteries are expensive.

But when a giant corporation stonewalls its users, and their CEO gives a weak non-apology, claiming, “When we did put it [the software update] out, we did say what it was, but I don't think a lot of people were paying attention … maybe we should have been clearer, as well,” well, that doesn’t win any sympathy points.
