Tesla Promises to Cover Tax Credits for Delayed Orders

Good news if your Tesla is delayed – Elon Musk promised that customers who miss out on the full EV tax credit would be reimbursed the difference.

We previously noted that Tesla moved 200K units, so the $7,500 tax credit for their vehicles would drop to $3,750 by January 1, before dipping another 50% on July 1st. Tardy deliveries could cost customers thousands of dollars.

No one would ever mistake Tesla for a mainstream automaker, but consumers snatched up 200,000 of their EVs far quicker than the competition. All things considered, it’s a good problem for Tesla to have.

Meanwhile, Tesla promised that orders placed by Oct. 15 would see delivery by Dec. 31. But the end (of the year) is nigh, and customers are getting impatient.

So Elon Musk recently took to Twitter and said that, “If Tesla committed delivery & customer made good faith efforts to receive before year end, Tesla will cover the tax credit difference.”
