YouTube to Make Extensive use of AI for Analytics, Video Creation

Anyone who’s slunk around as a YouTube creator (like yours truly) knows how hard it is to navigate the algorithm and get noticed amidst the sea of options. Great videos get lost in the shuffle all the time, often because they’re not featured in the right places or aren’t highlighted in search results. YouTube’s new AI features could help creators deal with these engagement factors.

With Google, Bing, and a host of e-commerce and entertainment sites fully embracing artificial intelligence across their entire product portfolios, it was only a matter of time before the top video site (and the world’s second-most trafficked site, overall) joined the AI bandwagon.

To start, the Inspiration tab in the YouTube Studio app will provide analytical data on which video ideas might perform well. After doing a search, it’ll show recent audience activity, popular searches, and popular videos related to that particular topic.

The info is based on the last 28 days and the tools will even help with the headline, thumbnail image, and outline, and with their Veo program, you can even generate full AI videos (up to 6 seconds long) for YouTube shorts.

That said, YouTube preemptively washes its hands of whatever springs from its Inspiration Tab and Veo – “AI-generated content may be inaccurate or inappropriate, vary in quality, or provide information that doesn't reflect YouTube's views,” they noted on their Creator Studio page.

Given that Generative AI content is already difficult to distinguish from the real thing, and bad actors could use it for political and/or malicious purposes, I can see why YouTube wants to simultaneously promote the technology and distance themselves from it.
